Instructions regarding Conversion Work in the Catchment Area of Distributors of the NUZ*

If work is due in or around a NUZ distributor, the following applies:

  1. The work must be discussed with the "IT and Construction Coordination" staff unit of the IT Infrastructure department of the central IT department at least 4 weeks before the work is due to begin. Contact: itundbau@zi.uzh.ch
  2. If extensions of the UCT are planned, the instructions regarding planning, ordering and commissioning of the NUZ must be taken into account. In this case the lead time is at least 3 months.
  3. If dust-generating work is being carried out in the room or if there is a risk of dust contamination of the distributor for other reasons, the instructions regarding dust-generating conversion work in the catchment area of distributors of the NUZ must be followed.
  4. If it is necessary to clean the room or the distribution board, this must be agreed with the "IT and Construction Coordination" staff unit of IT infrastructure at least 2 weeks prior to commencement. A company qualified for this purpose shall be proposed. The staff unit "Coordination of IT and Construction" will provide appropriate addresses upon request. In most cases, it is not enough to clean the racks ("racks"), but cables and equipment must also be cleaned.
Unqualified personnel can easily cause damage to equipment and network failures.
  5. In all cases, work on the power supply should be discussed in advance with the local operating service of the University of Zurich. The instructions of the operating services must be strictly followed.
Planned interruptions to the power supply must also be discussed with the operating services and in any case be reported at least one week in advance to the e-mail address "stromunterbruch@id.uzh.ch". Any error messages in the e-mail must be reported immediately to the staff unit "Coordination IT and Construction".
The reasons for unplanned interruptions (faults) must be communicated as quickly as possible to "stromunterbruch@id.uzh.ch".
Power interruptions at the NUZ distributor lead to a breakdown of the network in the building or, in certain cases, in other buildings. When planning a power interruption, the presence of members of the University of Zurich in the building and the range of the failure must be taken into account. Depending on the situation, failures are only possible outside the working hours of the University of Zurich, or a temporary supply must be set up. The transfer of equipment in the NUZ distribution list to a temporary supply may only take place after consultation with the "IT and Construction Coordination" staff unit at least 2 weeks in advance.
  6. In all cases, work on any ventilation or cooling system that may be present must be discussed in advance with the locally responsible operations service of the University of Zurich. The instructions of the operating services must be strictly followed.
The decommissioning of ventilation or cooling systems usually requires a shutdown of the network devices due to the insufficient heat dissipation. Such work must be discussed with the staff unit "Coordination IT and Construction" at least 2 weeks in advance.
  7. The persons involved in construction are responsible for any failures or damage they cause to the University of Zurich's facilities and will be held liable accordingly. This also applies to omissions that lead to failures or damage.
