The decentralised installation of servers in NUZ distribution rooms is no longer possible.
Every unit of the UZH has the option of accommodating servers in the Irchel data centre of the Central IT in a specially designed area.
Previous installations will be tolerated on sight. The following conditions must be met at all times.
- The room temperature must be kept below 30°C at all times - even in warm weather - without the installation of ventilation or air conditioning (i.e. it must be significantly lower than this - depending on the heat output of the server(s) - before installation).
- The server(s) must not be installed in the network racks. There must be space in the room for another rack or furniture (e.g. small table), which must be provided by the unit. This furniture must not obstruct access to the network racks in any way from the front or back. This means that the space must be large enough for this.
- The server(s) must not be connected directly to the Ethernet switch in the network rack. Numbered UKV sockets must be used at the location of the server(s).
- The same applies to the power supply. Power must also not be drawn from the network racks. Either there are other sockets in the room, or new ones must be installed.
- The distribution room is used exclusively for IT purposes. It is forbidden to store any material, including equipment or IT components that are out of order.
- If Central IT detects violations of these rules, or if the room temperature rises above 30°C - even without changes to the server(s) - the server(s) must be removed from the room immediately.
- We reserve the right to make changes based on new findings or operational requirements, orders from the UZH security service (especially fire protection, fire regulations) or instructions from the UZH administration.
