Access Control for Lectures

Two Use Cases

If you would like to implement an access control system for your lectures, there are two possible scenarios:

  1. Without access restrictions: you only want to record who was present in case contact tracing should become necessary.
  2. With access restrictions (e.g. division into cohorts): you want to ensure that only authorized students attend.

How to Proceed

Using handheld scanners and an Excel list, you can scan the barcode on the UZH cards at the entrance. In the first case, the student ID numbers are recorded in the Excel file, which can be used later to determine the names of the persons concerned via SAP, if required.

In the second case, you use the Excel-Template (DE) (XLSX, 239 KB)to prepare the list of authorized persons. When you scan a UZH card, you are immediately shown whether the person is on the list or not.

More detailed instructions are available in the “Instructions” sheet in the Excel template.

Please note that we cannot provide the staff to scan the UZH cards.

Ordering a Handheld Scanner

MELS has a limited number of handheld scanners available for loaning. To enable us to procure additional scanners or organize suitable loaning procedures together with Event Management (Veranstaltungsdienste), we need to know as soon as possible the level of demand in the individual locations. Please therefore use this form for placing your order. Please note that the locations where the scanners are handed out will be centralized, depending on the orders we receive. Alternatively, you can of course purchase your own handheld scanner.

Return of the hand scanners

Please send the hand scanners to the following address after borrowing:
